Alliance and Leicester
The Leicester Permanent Benefit Society was formed in 1852 and merged with the Leicester Building Society in 1985 to become the Alliance and Leicester Building Society, the organisation became a bank in 1997 when it was floated on the London Stock Exchange. In 2008 Alliance and Leicester became part of the Santander Group, it currently has around 7,300 employees and its 254 branches will all be rebranded by the end of 2010.
All new mortgages and re-mortgages will now be provided by the Santander Group.
