Norwich & Peterborough Mortgages (N&P)
With a history going back to 1852 the Norwich Building Society was one of the oldest providers of savings and mortgage products and merged with the Peterborough Building Society in 1986. The head office is now based in Peterborough and regional branches are based across East Anglia, employing over 1,000 members of staff, there are more than 500,000 customers who mostly live within the East of England.
The Society remains mutual and therefore ploughs all of its profits back into the organisation to enable members to benefit from good value products and quality customer service.
The range of mortgage products available is wide including some specialist options including a 'green mortgage' that may give you cashback for energy saving projects in your new home. The N&P also offers mortgages to self build clients - finances will be released in stages as the home is built.
Both first time buyers and current owners are able to choose from fixed rate, variable rate or offset mortgages. Some products have an option to accept help up front with legal and valuation fees thereby reducing some of the expenses involved when buying a new home.
N&P were awarded the 'Best Building Society' in the Personal Finance Awards 2009/10.
Norwich and Peterborough Building Society Mortgage Products
Fixed Rate mortgages: You can agree a mortgage term and interest rate whereby your monthly repayments will remain the same for the whole of the agreed period. At the end of the agreed term you will switch to the Society's Standard Variable Rate.
Discounted Rate mortgages: You will receive a discount from the Society's Standard Variable Rate for the agreed period. At the end of the deal you will switch to the Society's Standard variable Rate.
Self Build mortgages: You can apply to borrow for costs associated with both the land and building costs, payments will be released in stages as your home develops.
