Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) started issuing banknotes in 1727 and continues to do so today. The bank first began trading in Edinburgh and then opened a branch in Glasgow. Further branches were opened across Scotland and in 1874 the first London branch was opened. The first American branch opened in New York in 1960. There have been various acquisitions and mergers over the years but most recently the bank has been helped out by the UK government to ensure that it continues to trade and provide services to customers across the UK.

RBS offers Fixed rate, Tracker rate, Offset, Buy to Let and Shared Equity Mortgages to customers in Scotland and England. First time buyers, homeowners and existing customers can all choose from a wide range of mortgage products. You may be able to borrow up to 90% of the property's value although if you are able to provide a bigger deposit you will benefit from a lower interest rate.

Buy to Let mortgages: These can cover up to 75% of the property value, you can choose from similar rates and types of loans as those offered to all new mortgage applicants.
