Stafford Building Society

The Society has been providing savings and mortgage products for over 100 years, originally set up as a means for local railway workers to save and buy their own homes and it still operates from the single original branch office. The Society strives to provide straightforward and uncomplicated products at competitive rates, it does not offer special short term deals, choosing to concentrate upon quality low cost products and good savings rates for its members. All applications are individually assessed -the society does not use a credit score system to approve mortgage applications and believes in treating all applicants equally. It has not been involved in any mergers or acquisitions and remains a mutual society that is run for the benefit of members.

The society has won a number of awards from What Mortgage Magazine including 'Best Overall Lender' and 'Best National Building Society'.

Traditionally this society has only provided a Standard Variable Rate for residential customers but now also offers a buy-to-let variable rate mortgage. These are the only products it supplies.

Over and underpayments are possible on both of the mortgages listed below. There are no early repayment charges so you can pay off the whole loan at any point.

Stafford Building Society Mortgage Products

Variable Residential rate: The society has one product for residential customers, a Standard Variable Rate Mortgage that will fluctuate over the period of the loan with a maximum LTV of 75%.

Variable Buy-to-Let rate: There is one product available for Buy-to-Let customers, this has a higher rate than the residential mortgage but does still allow early repayment and the application fees are the same.
