Teachers Building Society

Launched in 1966 this society offers mortgages to anyone who works in the education sector and the mortgage assessors have specialist knowledge of teacher's employment, pay scales and future prospects.It is a mutual organisation and therefore has no shareholders, it is run for the benefit of its members.

Variable and fixed rate mortgages are available, the amount you can borrow, deposit required and interest rate you pay will depend upon the product you choose.

You can apply for a mortgage that will enable you to take advantage of the Government sponsored Low Cost Shared Ownership schemes. You purchase a share of home and pay rent on the remaining share. As time goes on you can opt to buy more shares and eventually hold a mortgage on the whole property

Teachers Building Society Mortgage Products

Fixed Rate mortgage: You can choose a term of 3 or 5 years and this is a popular choice amongst customers who believe that interest rates will rise in the future. Depending upon the product you can borrow up to 85% of the value of your home. At the end of the fixed term your mortgage interest will be the Standard Variable Rate.

First Time Buyer mortgage: Any of the available mortgage products can be approved for first time buyers but a special 2 Year Fixed Rate mortgage is also offered to these customers. Mortgages for co-ownership schemes may also be suitable.

Variable mortgage: The society currently offer discounted variable rates over 3 years, your interest rate will depend upon the amount of your deposit and you may not have to pay an application fee. Your repayments will fluctuate but will always be lower than the Standard Variable Rate for the fixed rate period.
